Exercise example
Hi! Here is one exercise to demonstrate how simple it is to follow the exercises in the book. This particular exercise does not form any habits, but will leave you feeling happier. The habit formation exercises in the book will be necessary to put happiness generation on automatic, which means you won't need to do any exercises anymore.
Rate how happy you feel with your life right now, somewhere between 1 and 10. Not how happy you think you are, but how happy you feel you are.
Focus on current events in your life, and repeatedly answer the question which is in bold below for about 10 minutes with different situations. If you are having troubles answering it, as negative things are popping to mind, think of how those negative things could be worse. For example, It may not be great that you lost out on a certain competition, but it would have been worse to not have been even able to enter the competition at all, so: It was right that you were able to enter that competition.
What's right with your life?
Once this exercise is done, notice again how happy you feel about life at this point, and rate it somewhere between 1 and 10.
Your rating should have gone up. If you found the exercise was difficult and you spent a lot of time hesitating, then your rating might not have gone up, and you need to do it for longer than 10 minutes until answering becomes much easier.
